Arizona Opera brings Gioachino Rossini’s La Cenerentola to life in a semi-staged production that sparkles with humor and heart. This vibrant retelling of the classic Cinderella fairytale follows Angelina, mistreated by her vain stepfather Don Magnifico and his scheming daughters, as she dares to dream of a better life.
With the help of Prince Ramiro’s clever valet, Dandini, and a playful twist involving a pair of bracelets, Angelina navigates palace intrigue to win the prince’s heart. Each scene bursts with comic timing and gentle romance, weaving a tale both familiar and refreshingly new. Audiences will cheer for Angelina’s grace and wit as she transforms from servant to princess.
Rossini’s beloved score fills the hall with lively overtures and dazzling coloratura arias. Angelina’s triumphant finale, “Non più mesta,” showcases the soloist’s virtuosic flair. Choruses and ensembles bring 19th-century Naples to life with spirited energy. The production balances elegant vocal artistry with playful stagecraft.
Sung in Italian with English surtitles, Cinderella (La Cenerentola) runs approximately two hours, including one intermission. The semi-staged format features minimal sets and focuses on expressive performances. Assistive listening devices and accessible seating ensure everyone can enjoy the show.
