The Marroney Theatre, a cornerstone of the performing arts in Tucson, Arizona, opened its doors in 1956 with a production of “Hamlet.” Originally named The University Theatre, it was later renamed in honor of Peter R. Marroney, who led the theatre department for 36 years and was instrumental in shaping its legacy.
Situated prominently, the theatre is one of Arizona’s premier theatrical venues. Its opening marked a new era for the arts in the state and influenced the development of numerous other venues throughout Arizona.
Throughout its history, the Marroney Theatre has seen numerous upgrades to maintain its status as a top-tier facility. The most recent renovations, completed in February 2024, have significantly enhanced the theater’s infrastructure and patron experience.
