An irresistible genre blender . . . always creating a mood around the music that puts rhythm, harmony, and melody in delicious orbits. It casts a spell on you.

–Pitchfork

Meshell Ndegeocello is an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer, and musical visionary. A Grammy winner and 11-time nominee, Ndegeocello has built a reputation as an uncompromising artist whose deliriously funky and soulful work provides a powerful commentary on race, gender, and LGBTQ+ rights.

2024 marks the centennial of the birth of the eminent writer James Baldwin, a momentous occasion that is celebrated by the release of Ndegeocello’s No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin. A prolific writer, Baldwin’s essays, novels, plays, and poetry assessed and often reproached the human condition. And as an outspoken civil rights activist of unmatched oratory prowess, Baldwin expressed his views on Black oppression with profundity and eloquence. Following 2023’s The Omnichord Real Book, which won the inaugural Grammy Award for Best Alternative Jazz Album, Ndegeocello renders an immersive and palpable document that is as insightful, unabashed, and introspective as Baldwin was in life.
