Step into a world of enchantment in this special collaboration between the ASU Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Music Theatre and Opera.
The evening begins with Debussy’s “Fêtes” (Festivals) from Nocturnes, a vibrant celebration of color and movement, followed by his iconic “Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune” (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun), a dreamlike reverie inspired by myth and nature. Poulenc’s playful “Les animaux modèles” (Model Animals) brings a cast of characterful creatures to life in a witty and elegant orchestral suite.
The second half features a semi-staged performance of Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges” (The Child and the Magic Spells). This masterful work follows a mischievous child whose temper tantrum sparks a magical chain of events where furniture can talk, animals can argue, and plants sing in protest. Colette’s witty libretto and Ravel’s playful score create an imaginative world that will delight and move audiences.
Blending opera and orchestra, fantasy and emotion, “Magique” is a celebration of musical storytelling and the imaginative power of live performance.
