Embark on a musical excursion through the insatiable joie de vivre that defines a city known as “The Big Easy.” Fresh from a staged reading in the 2024 Festival of New American Theatre comes the tale of a heartbroken young woman as she discovers it is possible – in fact inevitable – to be reborn in the “city that care forgot.” With an ensemble of six representing the wide range of populations in one of the world’s most diverse cities, Let The Good Times Roll: A New Orleans Gumbo takes audiences on a journey through history, hardship, and ultimate triumph that is the hallmark of a place where even major catastrophes – from the Great Flood of 1927 to Hurricane Katrina – are somehow always overcome by faith in the future, and an unbridled enjoyment of the present. With a rich gumbo of melodies from the renowned ragtime artist Jelly Roll Morton and “Empress of the Blues” Bessie Smith to the iconic funk, R&B, and jazz music of Fats Domino, The Meters, Dr. John, Harry Connick Jr., and the Neville Brothers, comes a toe-tapping world premiere that pays tribute to the life-changing spirit of Nawlins. Are you ready to let the good times roll?
