“A bespectacled redhead, Landers sings with the feel, grease, and chops of a soul man twice his age. He’s also nimble guitarist with a bluesy touch.”

Born and raised in Alabama, Lamont Landers grew up absorbing the soulful sounds of the South that surrounded him. At 14, he taught himself how to play guitar; at 19, he started singing. He spent years quietly honing his talents behind his bedroom doors, listening to records by Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Sly and the Family Stone, and Ray Charles on repeat. At 22, a candid video recorded by his sister of Lamont performing Ray Charles’s classic “Hit the Road Jack” went viral on YouTube and garnered more than 400,000 views overnight. In summer 2023, history repeated itself, with fan response propelling five of Landers’s TikTok videos to more than 1 million views each. Shoutouts from music tastemakers such as Snoop Dogg and Questlove soon followed.
