Darrell Scott became one of the most successful country songwriters of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Some of the biggest names in country music—including Garth Brooks, the Chicks, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill—recorded his songs and turned them into major hits. All the while, Scott worked consistently as a studio musician and released several solo albums, notching four Grammy nominations and winning Songwriter of the Year awards from ASCAP and Nashville Songwriters Association International. A skilled multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, Darrell Scott mines and cultivates the everyday moment for his songs, taking the rote, menial, and mundane and allowing them to be surreal, poignant, resonant, and candidly honest. His latest record, Old Cane Back Rocker, was released in August 2023. Two months earlier, he was nominated for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Scott loaned three of his personal instruments to MIM’s past Acoustic America exhibition.
