Fox Tucson Theatre Welcomes New Executive Director Bonnie Schock

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. The Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Bonnie Schock as the new Fox Tucson Theatre Executive Director. Ms. Schock comes to Tucson from Red Wing, Minnesota where she has been the Executive Director of the Sheldon Theatre of Performing Arts since 2015. She has multiple Fellowships, holds Bachelor of Arts, Master of Fine Arts, Mini MBA for Executive Directors degrees, and boasts three decades of experience in the theatre arts and entertainment industry. Ms. Schock was selected from a wide variety of talented applicants, following an extensive national search to fill the position left vacant by longtime Executive Director Craig Sumberg. Ms. Schock begins her tenure at the Fox Tucson Theatre on March 9, 2020.

Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation Board President, Michael Heisler had this to say about Ms. Schock, “Bonnie is a highly skilled, experienced manager, and an inspiring, passionate and visionary leader who can build on what the Fox has accomplished and propel us forward into the next decade with fresh enthusiasm, limitless creativity and innovative ideas.” And Rio Nuevo Chairman Fletcher McCusker added, “We are pleased to see someone with Bonnie’s experience coming to the Fox. She is uniquely qualified to add a high level of professional management to our historic theater. She has a demonstrated track record with similar venues and a real appreciation for the impact the Fox can have on our community. Bonnie, welcome to the desert!”

Of her new role, Bonnie Schock shared, “I am delighted and honored to join the Fox Tucson Theatre team. I believe in the performing arts as a space for community building, where we get to know ourselves, our neighbors, and our world better. And, after 30 years in this work, I have come to know that historic facilities play a particularly vital role in the arts ecosystem, for all the memories they hold and the connections they foster. The Fox is truly a rare treasure – the kind of special place that works across time, as a tangible link between past, present, and future. I am excited to begin work with the Board, the vibrant Tucson arts and cultural community, the Fox’s many and diverse supporters, and the skilled staff to build on the Fox’s many past and current successes, and to imagine together a vibrant future.”

Informal community ‘meet & greet’ events are in the planning stages to welcome Ms. Schock to the Tucson and Southern Arizona community.

Built in 1930, the Fox Tucson Theatre is the only example of a southwestern style art deco movie palace theater known to exist today. It was Tucson’s prime entertainment venue for forty years until falling into disrepair and closing in the 1970s. Fortunately, the Tucson community rallied to save the Fox and the 1164 seat historic theater underwent a 6-year $14 million dollar renovation leading up to the grand reopening on New Year’s Eve 2005. With a meticulously restored space and state-of-the-art acoustic sound, the Fox Tucson Theatre has once again become the ‘Crown Jewel of Downtown.’ The Fox hosts approximately 160 events per year for more than 75,000 attendees.
