SUMMARY:Darrell Scott
DESCRIPTION:Darrell Scott became one of the most successful country songwriters of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Some of the biggest names in country music—including Garth Brooks\, the Chicks\, Tim McGraw\, and Faith Hill—recorded his songs and turned them into major hits. All the while\, Scott worked consistently as a studio musician and released several solo albums\, notching four Grammy nominations and winning Songwriter of the Year awards from ASCAP and Nashville Songwriters Association International. A skilled multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter\, Darrell Scott mines and cultivates the everyday moment for his songs\, taking the rote\, menial\, and mundane and allowing them to be surreal\, poignant\, resonant\, and candidly honest. His latest record\, Old Cane Back Rocker\, was released in August 2023. Two months earlier\, he was nominated for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Scott loaned three of his personal instruments to MIM’s past Acoustic America exhibition.

SUMMARY:Celebrating the Guitar: Roberto-Venn’s 50th Anniversary Concert
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating the Guitar is a concert and display honoring 50 years of the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery\, the renowned Phoenix-based guitar-building and repair school. The concert will feature national touring musicians playing more than 50 one-of-a-kind guitars currently being custom-built by acclaimed Robert-Venn graduates. The show will also feature guitars built by many of the world’s premier guitar-making companies\, including Fender\, Gibson\, Taylor\, Paul Reed Smith\, Collings\, and Santa Cruz Guitars\, all of which employ Roberto-Venn graduates. Among the more than a dozen musicians slated to celebrate Roberto-Venn and the glory of the guitar are English musician Laurence Juber\, National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship winner Muriel Anderson\, and four-time Grammy nominee and Roberto-Venn cofounder William Eaton. Eaton and Rich Walter\, MIM’s senior curator and curator for United States / Canada\, will provide insight and commentary during the performances.
