SUMMARY:AET Presents the Classic Hit Musical\, “Funny Girl”
DESCRIPTION:“Don’t rain on my parade…;” be sure to catch the blockbuster classic musical\, “Funny Girl!” Based on the life of famed Follies headliner Fanny Brice\, and made popular by the 1968 film starring Barbra Streisand and Omar Sharif\, “Funny Girl” is a beloved gem in the musical theatre catalog. Don’t miss your chance to catch this multi-Tony nominated\, recently Broadway revived hit\, fully LIVE Arts Express Theatre\, running January 23-February 15. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m.\, and Saturday and Sunday Matinees at 2 p.m. \nFanny Brice (Julia Waters) dreams of one day becoming a “Ziegfeld” girl\, only there’s one problem… all the neighbors agree\, an Atlantic City beauty queen she is not. But Fanny is talented and full of wit\, comedy\, and plenty of drive\, so when Fanny meets vaudeville dancer\, Eddie (Kevin Orduño)\, she convinces him to help her get her foot in the door. \nSoon Fanny’s off-beat\, star-like quality propels her to the Ziegfeld follies\, and after a show she meets handsome\, charming high roller Nick Arnstein (Matt Milne). As Fanny’s fame grows and she headlines a tour\, Nick is her biggest fan\, and soon Nick and Fanny fall in love. Despite warnings about his gambling ways\, Fanny grows tired of people telling her what to do and decides to go after Nick to become a “Sadie\,” married lady. \nWhile Fanny has achieved fame\, money\, and now a husband and a baby\, Nick\, ever eager to be the breadwinner\, continues to take bigger risks to win money for his lifestyle. Desperate for investors in his latest scheme\, Nick approaches Mr. Ziegfeld (Tom Spencer) himself\, but he declines\, and Fanny uses her fortune instead. As Nick and Fanny’s relationship problems comes to a head\, Fanny’s mother\, Mrs. Brice (Amy Williams)\, holds up a mirror to her life and shows her the reality. Hopeful to the last\, even after Nick has served prison time for fraud\, Fanny tries to reconcile. Knowing it can’t ever work\, Fanny finally comes to terms with who she is and realizes she’s “beat” her drum and given life her all\, and forges ahead into her new path without Nick. \nWith billboard top hits like “People\,” a stunning score by Jule Styne\, lyrics by Bob Merrill\, and book by Isobel Lennart\, every musical theatre lover won’t want to miss the chance to see “Funny Girl!” \n“Funny Girl” is Directed by Dana Milne\, with Music Direction by Luke Diamond and Choreography by Simone Jolivet-Manuel. \nFor tickets\, visit www.arts-express.org or call the Arts Express Theatre Box Office at (520) 319-0400.

SUMMARY:MahlerÕs Tragic
DESCRIPTION:MahlerÕs sixth symphony is one of great contrast. Although written at an incredibly happy period of his life\, the work itself is mostly dark. Mahler firmly believed in an artistÕs ability to predict or even influence future events\, and the Sixth\, his most personal work\, is also a prophetic one. The three blows of the epic hammer are said to represent the three great blows that came to Mahler after the premiere: the death of his child\, the diagnosis of his heart condition\, and his forced resignation from the Vienna Opera. ÒNo other work flowed so directly from his heart as this one\,Ó wrote his wife Alma. ÒWe both cried at the time; we felt so deeply what this music meant\, what it forebodingly told us.Ó The Sixth is a tour-de-force\, an intense eighty minutes of music performed by a large scale orchestra where every detail\, from the smallest\, gentlest moment to the largest crash of the hammer is intensely thought through.

SUMMARY:Where the Wild Things Are: STEM Lessons from the World’s Most Unusual Pets to Your Furry Best Friend
DESCRIPTION:Join the creator of the viral Instagram series\, “The Year of the Dogs\,” for a deep\, hilarious\, and very cute exploration of the world around us and the animals in it—especially our pets!  Having spent over 30 years traveling the world for National Geographic and documenting everything from mummies to mutts\, Vincent Musi believes that everything we learn about animals teaches us everything we don’t know about ourselves.  With his trademark dry humor\, he takes us into the world of animal cognition and on a tour of some of the world’s most unusual pets\, including a hilarious romp through his The Year of the Dogs project. You may never look at your fuzzy friends the same way again! \n\nSince 1993\, Vincent J. Musi has been a regular contributor to National Geographic\, covering a vast range of subjects from the legendary Route 66 to life at the base of volcanoes. A specialist in animal portraits\, his recent work includes projects on domestication\, intelligence and cognition. When Vincent’s work shifted from documenting the world to photographing animals\, he knew he was in over his head and feared it would end his career. He’s still unsure\, as he works with subjects who routinely growl\, bark\, roar\, bite\, hiss\, claw\, poop\, or pee…on him. In particular\, he taps into his inner Dr. Dolittle to capture unique dog portraits. As a way to amuse himself (and us)\, Vince imagines the inner lives of his subjects and shares often side-splitting and sometimes poignant life stories from their perspective.

SUMMARY:OCA
DESCRIPTION:OCA \n(Karla Badillo\, Mexico/Argentina\, 2025\, 109 min. In Spanish with English subtitles) \nQ&A with the director \nWinner of the Silver Hugo Award in the New Directors Competition at the Chicago International Film Festival\, Oca is the atmospheric and mystical debut feature by Karla Badillo\, telling the story of Rafaela\, a young nun from a dwindling congregation who embarks on a pilgrimage after the arrival of a new archbishop. Along the way\, she encounters travelers from diverse walks of life\, and her journey becomes a lyrical and often poignant meditation on faith\, doubt\, and resilience in a world shaped by both spiritual and material forces. Featuring a stellar ensemble cast of professional actors—including Natalia Solián (Huesera: The Bone Woman)\, Cecilia Suárez (The House of Flowers)\, and Raúl Briones (La Cocina)—alongside non-professional performers\, the film offers a quietly critical lens on devotion and institutional life\, reimagining the spiritual cinema of Luis Buñuel through a contemporary\, distinctly female perspective and tracing the winding path between belief\, destiny\, and self-discovery. \n  \nOCA \n(Karla Badillo\, México/Argentina\, 2025\, 109 min.
