SUMMARY:Asleep at the Wheel
DESCRIPTION:In February of 1974 Asleep at the Wheel made the move from the Bay Area to Austin\, Texas. After playing the Armadillo World Headquarters with Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen in 1973 – and receiving encouragement from Willie Nelson and Doug Sahm to relocate – the band settled in and made Austin their home\, where they remain 50 years later. \n\n  \n“Austin was and has been everything I could have ever wished for and more\,” says Ray Benson\, the band’s leader and only original member. “It’s been 55 years for AATW as a band\, and 50 of them have been spent in Texas. We are known worldwide for being a Texas band and playing Texas and Western Swing music. It brings us great pride to carry this torch and responsibility. We don’t take it lightly!” \nAsleep at the Wheel’s lineup is ever changing. Since 1970 the band has had over 100 members come through. In the past\, when a new member or two has joined a new album has emerged. In 2025 that still remains true. “We had some more line up changes after the pandemic and our 50th anniversary tour\,” says Benson. “We had some folks who had been with us for a while move on. But\, like always\, we kept playing live shows and searching for the next members to identify themselves – here we are!” \nOne key and important role in Asleep at the Wheel and in Texas and Western Swing music is the fiddle. “It’s crazy to think that Ian Stewart\, our newest vocalist and fiddler\, grew up five minutes away from my house and that had nothing to do with the reason he is in the band\,” says Benson. “Ian had a residency at the Broken Spoke as his own act. Danny Levin\, who was there at the start of AATW in West Virginia and was in the band through the 70’s and early 80’s\, had a relationship with Ian and a group with him and suggested him for the gig. Danny’s word was enough for me – he knows the gig as much as anyone.” \n“Having grown up in Austin\, Texas\, Asleep at the Wheel is a name that has always commanded respect and it’s an honor to join their ranks\,” says Stewart. “It’s an invaluable education working with a team that brings a fresh twist to the traditional music that I love and grew up listening to. I feel lucky every time I step on stage – it’s a ride I’m thankful to be on.”

SUMMARY:TajMo: Room On The Porch Tour 2026
DESCRIPTION:TajMo – the historic collaboration between two generations of American music masters\, Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ – will bring their Room On The Porch Tour back on the road in 2026 with more than 15 live shows across the United States. \n\nRecorded in Nashville with Keb’ and Taj co-producing\, the GRAMMY-nominated Room On The Porch finds the pair in peak form\, playing to each other’s strengths and opening up new creative horizons more than a half-century into their storied careers. The songs are warm and inviting\, rooted in the joy of human connection and the power of positivity\, and the performances are as timeless as they are adventurous\, incorporating the full spectrum of American roots music from blues and jazz to folk and country. Keb’ and Taj invited an all-star group of players\, singers\, and co-writers (including their sons) to join them in the studio for the sessions\, but the spotlight remains firmly fixed on the legendary pair throughout the collection\, their instantly recognizable voices and guitar stylings complementing and elevating each other at every turn. The result is a delightful\, big-hearted work that manages to feel both classic and current all at once\, an album rooted in deep tradition delivered by two icons with a boundless appetite for growth\, reinvention\, and discovery. \nThough the two only began recording together as TajMo in 2017 the pair’s creative relationship (and mutual admiration) stretches back decades. \nBorn Henry St. Claire Fredericks Jr.\, Taj landed his first record deal in the mid-1960s with Rising Sons—an early band he formed with Ry Cooder and Jessie Lee Kincaid—before going solo under the name Taj Mahal in 1968. While his early work was thoroughly entrenched in the Mississippi Delta\, he soon began blending an intoxicating mix of sounds from throughout the African Diaspora into his records\, touching on everything from rock and roll and R&B to reggae and jazz to West Indian and Caribbean music as he quickly became known as one of the most influential and progressive roots musicians of the modern era. Over the course of more than six decades and nearly 50 albums\, Taj would go on to win five Grammy Awards (plus the Recording Academy’s coveted Lifetime Achievement honor); perform everywhere from The White House to Carnegie Hall; be inducted into the Blues Music Hall of Fame; receive the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award; and collaborate with the likes of the Rolling Stones\, Bob Marley\, Eric Clapton\, Angelique Kidjo\, and countless other luminaries. \nBorn and raised in Compton\, Keb’ spent the first few decades of his career working primarily behind the scenes\, establishing himself initially as a highly respected guitarist\, songwriter\, and arranger. Though he recorded a one-off album in 1980 under his birth name\, Kevin Moore\, it wasn’t until 1994 that the world would meet Keb’ Mo’ with the release of his widely acclaimed self-titled debut. Critics were quick to take note of Keb’s modern\, genre-bending take on old school sounds\, and two years later\, he garnered his first Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album with Just Like You. In the decades to come\, Keb’ would take home four more Grammy Awards; top the Billboard Blues Chart seven times; collaborate with icons like Willie Nelson\, Bonnie Raitt\, The Chicks\, and Lyle Lovett; have compositions recorded and sampled by artists as diverse as B.B. King\, Zac Brown\, and BTS; perform multiple times at the White House; release signature guitars with both Gibson and Martin; compose music for television series like Mike and Molly\, Memphis Beat\, B Positive\, and Martha Stewart Living; and earn the Americana Music Association’s award for Lifetime Achievement in Performance.

SUMMARY:The Phantom of the Opera
DESCRIPTION:The Phantom is back to thrill audiences once again! Cameron Mackintosh presents a revitalized new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s legendary musical\, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA\, which was rapturously received by London critics when it reopened in 2021. Featuring Maria Björnson’s brilliant original design and based on the celebrated direction of Harold Prince\, with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne\, the new PHANTOM North American tour comes to ASU Gammage in Tempe\, September 16- October 4\, 2026. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is widely considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history\, playing to over 160 million people in 47 territories and 195 cities in 21 languages. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s romantic\, haunting\, and soaring score includes “The Music of the Night\,” “All I Ask of You\,” “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again\,” “Masquerade\,” and the iconic title song. It tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as ‘The Phantom’ who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano\, Christine\, The Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine’s love for Raoul\, The Phantom’s obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy\, madness\, and passions collide.

SUMMARY:Judy Collins – Sweet Judy Blue Eyes: Farewell: With Support From Oakland Rain
DESCRIPTION:Judy Collins has long inspired audiences with sublime vocals\, boldly vulnerable songwriting\, personal life triumphs\, and a firm commitment to social activism. In the 1960s\, she evoked both the idealism and steely determination of a generation united against social and environmental injustices. \n\nFive decades later\, her luminescent presence shines brightly as new generations bask in the glow of her iconic 55-album body of work\, and heed inspiration from her spiritual discipline to thrive in the music industry for half a century. The award-winning singer-songwriter is esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. Her stunning rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” from her landmark 1967 album\, Wildflowers\, has been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Judy’s dreamy and sweetly intimate version of “Send in the Clowns\,” a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical A Little Night Music\, won “Song of the Year” at the 1975 Grammy Awards. \nShe’s garnered several top-ten hits gold- and platinum-selling albums. Recently\, contemporary and classic artists such as Rufus Wainwright\, Shawn Colvin\, Dolly Parton\, Joan Baez\, and Leonard Cohen honored her legacy with the album Born to the Breed: A Tribute to Judy Collins. The cultural treasure’s 55th album\, Spellbound\, was released in February 2022\, finds Judy enjoying an artistic renaissance. The 13 song album is a special entry in her oeuvre. It marks the first time ever she wrote all the songs on one of her albums. It features 12 new recently-written modern folk songs\, and a bonus track of her evergreen\, “The Blizzard.” Spellbound is an introspective and impressionistic album. It unfolds as if Judy curated a museum exhibit of her life\, and welcomed us into a retrospective of her most formative moments\, some big and public\, and some intensely personal and intimate. \nSpellbound was nominated in the Best Folk Album category at the 65th Recording Academy Grammy Awards in 2023. While maintaining her rigorous touring schedule\, Judy released her first book of poetry in March of 2025 with Andrews McNeel Publishing. Written with the bold vulnerability that Judy Collins is best known for\, Sometimes It’s Heaven is a timeless collection of poetry that captures the ethereal and inspiring nature of her artistry in an all-new way. Biographical and relatable\, Sometimes It’s Heaven is a must-read for fans of poetry\, fans of Judy\, and fans of truth.

SUMMARY:Boz Scaggs Rhythm Review 2026
DESCRIPTION:BOZ SCAGGS is an American singer\, songwriter\, and guitarist. An early bandmate of Steve Miller in The Ardells and the Steve Miller Band\, he began his solo career in 1969\, though he lacked a major hit until his 1976 album Silk Degrees peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200\, and produced the hit singles “Lido Shuffle” and “Lowdown”. Scaggs produced two more platinum-certified albums in Down Two Then Left and Middle Man\, the latter of which produced two top-40 singles “Breakdown Dead Ahead” and “Jojo”. After a hiatus for most of the 1980s\, he returned to recording and touring in 1988\, joining The New York Rock and Soul Revue and opening the nightclub Slim’s\, a popular San Francisco music venue until it closed in 2020. He has continued to record and tour throughout the 1990s\, 2000s\, and 2010s\, with his most recent album being 2018’s Out of the Blues. \n\nScaggs is credited for helping the formation of Toto. For his 1976 album\, Silk Degrees\, he hand picked musicians after taking suggestions from several people. These musicians were David Paich\, David Hungate\, and Jeff Porcaro. The three were already friends and had frequently performed together on other albums\, such as Steely Dan’s Pretzel Logic. By going on tour with Scaggs\, it solidified the prospect of starting a band. Columbia picked up on this talent by offering the new group a contract “without audition”. Steve Porcaro described this as “a record deal thrown in our laps”. Paich stated “I’m not sure if Toto would have happened as soon\, or quite the same way\, without Silk Degrees”. Their friendship has continued throughout the decades shown by the varying collaborations and concerts performed together. Paich teamed up once more for Scaggs’ 2001 album\, Dig\, where he contributed to 6 out of the 11 songs.

SUMMARY:Scalia/Ginsburg: An Opera by Derrick Wang
DESCRIPTION:Opening the season is Derrick Wang’s Scalia/Ginsburg\, a sharp\, hilarious\, and unexpectedly moving operatic comedy inspired by the real-life friendship between Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Packed with legal citations\, operatic references\, and direct quotes from landmark opinions\, the opera celebrates civility\, intellectual rigor\, and the idea that “we are different\, we are one.”
