SUMMARY:ASU Music Theatre and Opera presents "Curtains"
DESCRIPTION:Music by John Kander\nLyrics by Fred Ebb\nBook by Rupert Holmes\nStage direction by Chelsea Anderson; choreography by Molly Lajoie; music direction by Alicia Ferrin. \nHijinks and high stakes take center stage in this musical-comedy murder mystery. When an opening night murder makes everyone a suspect\, homicide detective and amateur showman Frank Cioffi has these show people toe tapping thisaway and thataway around reasonable doubt to find the real culprit–all while saving their hides and the show. With music and lyrics by legendary team Kander & Ebb (Chicago\, Cabaret)\, this loving homage to Golden Age musicals delivers quick-witted\, hilariously memorable characters\, and more twists and turns than a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers number. For the musical fan who loves clever comedy\, impressive production numbers\, and a little murder on the side\, “Curtains” sure is a tough act to follow. \nContent warning: Staged murders and violence in a farcical style\, brief use of stage weapons and gunshot sound effects\, mildly suggestive humor. \nCurtains is presented through special arrangement with and all authorized performance materials are supplied by Theatrical Rights Worldwide 1180 Avenue of the Americas\, Suite 640\, New York\, NY 10036. www.theatricalrights.com \nAll ticket sales are ONLINE ONLY. Please purchase tickets in advance. Guests who do not have a ticket at the door will be directed to purchase a ticket online. Ticket service fees apply to every purchase.

SUMMARY:Give me your Tired
DESCRIPTION:Caroline Shaw is one of the most performed living composers in the world. The creative and collaborative artist is a multiple GRAMMY Award winner and the youngest person to win a Pulitzer Prize in music. Shaw’s To the Hands is a gentle and intimate exploration of the suffering of refugees and of our role in their healing. In the midst of the piece the vocalization of a litany of numbers—the numbers of displaced persons seeking asylum—provides a stark and powerful message. Shaw’s work resolves into an affirming\, melodic message of love and acceptance\, culminating with the thought-provoking image of hands; hands that are wounded and hands that are open\, beckoning and strong. In the style of a requiem and written as a healing response to his mother’s death\, Morten Lauridsen’s beautiful Lux Aeterna explores the balance of life and death that all people navigate\, culminating in a lush\, loving embrace. Lauridsen’s text and music encourages us to let light shine perpetually on and through those who have gone before us. The program includes the world premiere of the 2025 Stephen Paulus Emerging Composers Competition winning piece with a setting of an American poet writing of the immigrant experience.

SUMMARY:Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra | Legends and Legacy
DESCRIPTION:Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra’s six-part journey through the United States of America’s 250 years of spirit\, struggle\, and triumph continues with the second installment in the series\, Legends and Legacy: Myth\, Heroism\, and the American Spirit\, a cinematic and symphonic journey through the power of storytelling to shape identity\, culture\, and national ideals. Led by guest conductor Daren Weissfisch of the Tacoma Opera and featuring iconic works by John Williams\, including selections from the Harry Potter and Star Wars series\, alongside the overture from Alan Menken’s Beauty and the Beast and music inspired by Wagnerian grandeur\, this concert explores how myth and legend—whether drawn from film\, folklore\, or opera—forge our understanding of heroism and destiny. By pairing American cinematic brilliance with timeless European drama\, Legends and Legacy reveals the universal themes of struggle\, transformation\, and triumph at the heart of the American spirit.
