“This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius” with the Grammy and Tony-award winning, sensational rock musical, “Hair” at Arts Express Theatre March 15-30! Performances run Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m., and a special Thursday night show on March 27 at 7 p.m.
“Hair” takes us back to 1960s NYC counterculture bohemians Berger (Tommy Irish), his best friend Claude (Jacob Conrad), and girlfriend Sheila (Emiliya Dale), as their “Tribe” strives for peace, love, and community while struggling with identity, politics, drugs, and the sexual revolution.
When Claude receives his Draft card to be sent off to the Vietnam war, the tribe fight against conscription, attempting to get Claude to dodge the Draft and fully immerse into their ideals. As the political landscape of the times becomes more volatile, the Tribe members present a kaleidoscope of hallucinations, musings, and youthful defiance posed to set the world on fire.
With a stirring, provocative book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, and an exhilarating rock score by Galt McDermot, “Hair” has become a beloved classic. Garnering Top 10 Billboard Hit spots for songs such as “Let the Sunshine In,” “Good Morning Starshine,” “Aquarius,” and the title song, “Hair,” as well as winning a Grammy for the original Broadway cast recording, this production is not to be missed.
Directed by Nancy Davis Booth, with music direction by Linda Ackermann, and choreography by Mickey Nugent.
